About Us

    Teacher Interactive Software was started in 1993 by Larry Abramson and he continues to direct its operation. Our Abilities Builder software is very highly rated by educators and the software development community.  Our programs are currently being used worldwide by schools, institutions, businesses, as well as individuals 
involved in tutoring and self-improvement.  Larry will next provide some of his teaching and software development  background:

     "In 1985 I was working as Resource Specialist with the learning disabled. Typically, my students were functioning three to six years below expected achievement levels in reading, spelling, and written expression. In addition, after years of frustration with academic failure, low self  esteem, and various genetic, emotional and sociological factors, many presented behaviors that were not conducive to a productive and harmonious learning environment.   
    After about ten years of continuous effort to learn and practice my teaching skills, I had developed some very effective techniques to increase the rates of academic skill development. But I found that a great deal of my time was spent on assigning and monitoring a variety of skill-building activities. I realized that any time I spent exploring valuable facts and concepts with my students as a group would be time taken from addressing Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives.

    That year, I purchased an old Apple II+ computer (similar to the one pictured above), and I began to explore the possibilities of using computers to make my teaching situation less daunting. I envisioned a software design that I believed would make me considerably more effective in achieving educational goals and objectives. This software design would free me from much of the time consuming skill-improvement activity assignment and monitoring. It would enable me to teach curriculum materials while simultaneously improving reading, spelling, and writing skills with all students regardless of grade and ability level.
    After doing an extensive search of available software, I realized that if I wanted my vision to become reality, I would need to learn how to program my computer and produce the software myself. And that is how it all began.
    As early as 1986, I began using software I had written and I immediately began to see some of the results I had expected. There were some deficiencies in the software, but it was doing the job. Using the software, I was able to spend more time exploring valuable facts and concepts with my students as a group. Periodic testing verified that my students were retaining the materials we were discussing at unprecedented levels! The tests also verified that skills in reading, spelling, and written expression were going up at very rapid rates! "
